Teacher Grants

Purpose: The Melissa Education Foundation’s mission is to enhance the lives of Melissa ISD Students through student scholarships, teacher grants and other educational experiences. MEF is proud to support MISD Educators’ creative and innovative educational opportunities through the MEF Teacher Grants program. 


Eligibility: All Melissa ISD Educators, as an individual or group, who are involved with educational instruction of Melissa ISD students. This includes all UIL and extracurricular programs that support student’s educational experience. Funds are available through an application and selection process, as detailed below. Applying for an MEF Teacher grant does not guarantee MEF Teacher Grant funds will be awarded. 


Grant Awards: Individual grants are awarded for up to $1000. Group grants are awarded for up to $5000. Grants are not available for expenses that are covered by Melissa ISD resources, and should be in addition to or to expand on the financial resources available. All MEF Teacher Grant applications require approval by Melissa ISD.  

Grant Application / Selection Process

  

Complete the required MEF online grant application. Applications are due ON or BEFORE SEPTEMBER 30, 2023.  


Teacher or campus-initiated applications must be signed by the campus principal and MISD Deputy Superintendent Kim Boedeker. If the grant involves a technical component, it must also be reviewed and signed off on by the MISD Technologist.


Applications will be reviewed by the Campus Principal, MEF Executive Director and the MEF Board of Directors. The MEF Board of Directors reserves the right to seek the input of other parties as needed through the selection process. 


Grant applications will be reviewed within the stated timeline and receive one of the following responses:  

  • Funded
  • Funded with Conditions/Modifications
  • Not Funded at this time. This response may include suggestions for reapplication. 

Selection Criteria

The following criteria will be considered when reviewing the grant application.

  • Supports program, campus or district goals
  • Improves students learning
  • Enhances the curriculum in an innovative or creative way
  • Concise summary of the proposed grant funding
  • Contains a specific and feasible purpose with clear objectives that relate to MISD objectives/ curriculum
  • Includes a detailed budget explaining how the funds will be utilized
  • Includes clear evaluation to report the impact or success of the grant funding


Priority will be given to projects that directly involve students. Grant funding can include compensation/ fees for experts or resources speakers who will work directly with students. Funds may be used to purchase equipment as a component of program/ project that will be integrated with curriculum activities/ materials. Grant applications that will incorporate matching/ community funding are eligible for consideration – please include these resources in the application. 

MEF Teacher Grant Recipient Expectations

All MEF Teacher Grant recipients are expected to the terms listed below. 


  • Grant funding will be used for the purposes, as approved at the time of the award
  • MEF will receive updates, progress and results of the project/program
  • Participation in promotional activities for MISD and MEF in regards to the grant awarded project/program as determined by the MEF Board of Directors and approved by MISD Administration
  • Report back to the MEF Board of Directors detailing impact of the grant funded project/program (an evaluation form may be provided by MEF)
  • All grant funded materials/equipment become property of Melissa ISD* 


*Recipients of individual grants who transfers campuses within MISD may be allowed to transfer materials/equipment as appropriate. Group grants will remain on the campus of origin unless otherwise determined by the Campus Principal.
